
Martial arts students, in general, earn colored belts to indicate from on skill level to the next. Lago Vista ATA follows a belts & stripes system, where progress within a belt level is sub-divided into earning stripes.
Here is an explanation of our belts & stripes system:
ATA Belts System
Lago Vista Black Belt Academy, in accordance with ATA, uses the following belt levels that students are awarded as their knowledge and skill in Taekwondo martial arts grow:
- White Belt
- Orange Belt
- Yellow Belt
- Camo Belt – As of Camo belt, students also participate in sparring.
- Green Belt
- Purple Belt
- Blue Belt
- Brown Belt
- Red Belt
- Red/Back Belt (Recommended Black)
- Black Belt
Stripes System
Stripes placed on a student’s belt are used to indicate progress towards earning the next belt. Here are the stripes and the requirements for each:
First Stripe
Knowledge and execution of techniques (basics).
Second Stripe
Form Performance: balance, power, rhythm, timing, attitude, focus, memory, speed.
Third Stripe
Sparrng Combination: speed, power, eye contact, balance, proper execution.
Fourth Stripe
Self Defense: reaction (ability to have quick response when being attacked), verbal (calling out for help or telling the attacker to back down), get away, etc.
Board Break: power, focus, and speed (3 attempts).
Sparring (applicable at Camo belt & up): confidence in offense and defense, timing, speed, read opponent, stamina, throw multiple techniques.
Half step: not completing one of more of the above and not demonstrating life skills at ATA, school, home, and keeping up grades.
Full step: gives 100% all the time, displays all of the above, has 15+ TKD classes and 4 sparring classes (Camo belt & up).
